Role and Facility Information
You are a GP for a complex Rural community, with the support of the MOAs, and will work 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with a closure for lunch from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. You will work in the clinic, with 20 minute appointments per patient, as well as be the Emergency walk-in physician if necessary. Your first morning will be blocked off for orientation with the MOAs, and will include a tour, narcotic count and general information about the clinic. Your last afternoon will include ample administration time. You will also provide evening/overnight on-call on designated dates.

About the Clinic
Clinic Description
Clinic Composition
We have 2 physicians sharing 1.3 FTE, 1 -4 day/wk Home & Community Care Nurse. A First Call Nurse in the clinic 20 hrs/week & call 2-3 weekends per month. 2 exam rooms, 1 Emerg Room, 2 offices, and 3 MOAs.
Local Resources
A phlebotomist avail on Thursday for 4 hours. We have one Mental Health & Addictions counselor (employed by VIHA) up to 2 days/week but serves Galiano and Salt Spring. 2 RMTs and one physiotherapist rent rooms casually. A dentist comes once a week.
Emergency Framework
Ambulance, volunteer First Responders. Emergency Treatment Room. Patients requiring urgent transfer are taken by water taxi or helicopter.
Call Expectations
Rotating on call via MOCAP Program. Generally one evening per week (1700-0800) and one weekend per month (Friday 1700 - Monday 0800). Locums must use their own cell phones. No pager.

Welcoming Procedures
MOAs welcome locum on first morning. They are given information about the island, local magazine, keys, instructions for building procedures.
Orientation
MOAs provide orientation. First morning is booked off for training and orientation at clinic.
Social Involvement
Some social programs, occasional events at Community Halls. Galiano Activity Centre has a small "gym". There are numerous beautiful beaches and parks with forest trails. Montague Provincial Park is home to a campground and beaches, and Montague Harbour Marina hosts a kayak rental and tour company.

Accommodation Description
While we do not provide the Accommodation, Lindsay Williams @ GHCC is happy to arrange it for you via some wonderful cottages/Galiano Inn etc. Please email her ghcsoperations@shaw.ca and she will assist.
Most Convenient Mode of Transportation
No public transportation at all. The Galiano Inn will rent their SmartCars to guests. Clinic is at the south end of the island. Galiano Island is only by ferry from Tsawwassen or Swartz Bay (Victoria), boat or seaplane.
