Salt Spring Island C

Salt Spring Island is a rural island community of just over 10000 people. It is home to Lady Minto Gulf Island Hospital, a 19 bed community hospital that includes a Designated Observation room under section 3(2) of the Mental Health Act. The island is home to a community mental health team that includes primary care, case management, counselling, crisis response, psychiatric consultation, psychiatric outpatient care and limited short term inpatient stays primarily related to substance use. The majority of the team is based on Salt Spring but provides service to all of the Southern Gulf Islands.
In addition, Salt Spring Psychiatrists provide on-call response to the Lady Minto Emergency Department. Most care is provided to Adults, however the population served includes includes Children, Youth and Geriatric presentations supported by regular visiting Child /Youth and Geriatric Psychiatry services. Note: we will not be requesting that locums provide call coverage.

Salt Spring has a vibrant arts and artisan community with a range of cultural activities not typical for communities of Salt Spring’s size. Throughout the year there are a range of musical and theatre performances, art shows and courses spanning a large cross section of the arts.
Located in the sheltered waters of the Salish Sea, the Gulf Islands are popular with boaters and kayakers while on land, the abundance of parks and hiking trails offer countless opportunities to explore new areas of the island.
There is a thriving local agriculture scene and old-fashioned farmstands abound selling goods from bread, cheese and eggs to soap, flowers and handicrafts.
