About the Clinic
Clinic Description
Clinic Composition
There are 3 full time doctors, an NP, an office manager, 3 MOA's as well as a mental health nurse, social worker and a Home & Community nurse provided by the local Health Authority (Island Health)
Local Resources
Mental Health, Social Workers, LifeLabs, Home & Community Care in our building and other health professionals on the island.
Emergency Framework
Patients call 911 after hours (station staffed 24 hours), the paramedics triage the patient and call out the physician on call if needed. Patients are transferred to our Urgent Treatment Room.
Call Expectations
We provide 2/3 coverage at this time. This works out to be each doctor covering 1-2 evenings per week (16 hours) and one weekend day per month (24 hours).
CME Schedule
Once a month for CME rural rounds.
Visiting Specialist/Consultant Information
Mental health nurse 4 days p/w, part time senior's health social worker. We have a visiting General Surgeon, Plastic Surgeon, Psychiatrist and an Internist.

What training is provided for the EMR System
The doctor and/or office manager provide a 1 hour orientation to the clinic and EMR on the first day.
Level of Support/Care and Policy
Welcoming Procedures
The locums are welcomed by the doctors and staff. There is a welcome package.
Orientation
Provided by the doctor/office manager, includes passwords, keys, map, alarm code, ferry schedule, on-call schedule, list of specialists contact details.
Social Involvement
Social involvement is up to what the locum would prefer, they can participate in lots of events or rest and relax and enjoy island life.
Clinic Policy
Must be a patient of the clinic and the patient must come in.
Accommodation and Transportation
The clinic does provide accommodation.
Accommodation Description
Accommodation and car rental, if required, will be the responsibility of the Host physician or Health Authority for all āCā and āDā communities on the RSA Communities Designation list. Cabin with a full kitchen can be provided.
Most Convenient Mode of Transportation
Sail via BC Ferries from Nanaimo. It is recommended that the locums bring a car and/or a bike as there is only limited public transportation.

Grocery Store
There is a well stocked grocery store on Gabriola or the locum can stop at Thrifty's in Nanaimo before catching the ferry to Gabriola.
Community Centre
Gym, hiking/biking trails, golfing, parks ,kayak rentals, fishing charters ,theatre Festival, the Thanksgiving Arts Tour and the Salmon BBQ and the weekly Farmer's Market with lots of local food and arts and crafts.
