1 Nurse Practitioner

MOA Team

Local Resources

On-site: phlebotomist 2 mornings a week, Island Health Community Health Services (community care nurses and home support), dental practice, weekly audiologist, weekly Public Health Nurse, chiropractor, RMT, mental health counselling. Physio on-island

Emergency Framework

BCEHS Ambulance, volunteer First Responders/Fire Department.

Patients requiring urgent transfer are taken by BCEHS water taxi or helicopter

Call Expectations

Rotating call via MOCAP.

Generally, one evening per week (1700hrs to 0800hrs) and one weekend per month (Friday 1700hrs to Monday 0800hrs)

Locums must use their own cell phone, no pager avaiable.

Welcoming Procedures

Tour of health centre and medical clinic. Medical practitioners and MOA team available for local knowledge and clinic resources.

Orientation

A portion of the first morning is booked for orientation. Locums are provided with a binder of info, passwords, instructions, keys and building information.

Social Involvement

Weekly Community Market (seasonal produce, arts & crafts), community choir and theatre, church services, public 9-hole golf course, Legion dinners and activities.

The island has many ocean settings from beach to bluff and numerous well maintained hiking trails. There is a seasonal swimming in a small lake and ready access to water based activities such as kayaking and SUP

Accommodation and Transportation

The clinic does not provide accommodation.

Accommodation Description

Clinic staff can provide information on vacation rentals, "air bnb", BnB, etc. that fall within LRBC reimbursement costs. Travel and accommodation covered by LRBC.

On-island commercial accommodation (hotels) exceed LRBC limits.

Most Convenient Mode of Transportation

Personal Vehicle.

BC ferries: regular service to Victoria and Vancouver. SeaAir for scheduled, but weather dependent, float plane service to YVR (south terminal). On-island, day-time & evening taxi service. No local car rental or bus service.

Large well-stocked grocery store, 2 smaller specialty food stores and numerous road-side farm market stands (seasonal)

Community Centre

Community Hall offers drop in activities and exercise classes, Access to outside tennis courts can be arranged. Community use of local school field and playground. Well groomed baseball field. Year-round outside pool & hot-tub at local resort.
