Role and Facility Information
Our preferred dates are flexible & assignments can be 2+ days or longer.
We are looking for full OR coverage for the duration of your visit, including all elective/urgent/emergent surgeries including obstetrical analgesia (epidurals/intrathecals). This would also include after hours and weekend coverage. Our anesthesia service also provides critical care support to our ER colleagues and to the hospital. This includes but not limited to out-of-OR airway support to ER/hospital, resuscitations (adult/pediatric/neonatal) and trauma support. This team of GP’s and GP Specialists work in a collaborative team to support each other in clinical and academic activities to provide the best level of patient care in the north.

Clinic Composition
Omineca Medical Clinic is a busy rural family practice comprised of 11 Physicians, including two permanent GPAs & 3 GP surgeons. Physicians practice full-service rural medicine which includes working at St. John Hospital, as well as the Clinic.

Emergency Framework
The ER at SJH is staffed by one Physician on duty. Coverage 24/7. Ambulance including Air Ambulance. Under normal circumstances, there is always an anaesthetist and a surgeon on call. Virtual / remote support for ER - "RTVS" Northern RACE line
Call Expectations
Flexible - depends on the number of anaesthetists in community (1:2/ 3) and the length of the assignment. We will work with GPAs to create mutually agreeable work schedules.

Welcoming Procedures
Locums are supported and welcomed to the community by the Physicians and the Clinic Office Manager. We provide assistance with housing, orientation, scheduling, and all other logistics. We are happy to look after various details and arrangements.
The Vanderhoof medical team is collegial and welcoming to locums.
Orientation
GPAs will be provided with orientation and mentoring (as desired) by the permanent GPAs in community. Hospital OR and ER orientations are arranged at St. John Hospital.
Social Involvement
The Vanderhoof Physician team is very friendly, collegial, and supportive. We have worked with many different locum Physicians and enjoy welcoming new colleagues to the team. As a teaching site, we have an R1 and an R2 Resident in community, as well as various other medical students coming for electives. Vanderhoof is a lovely small town with a good assortment of great restaurants, stores, and other amenities. Located within an hour's drive of Prince George, the northern capital.

Fly via Air Canada and WestJet to Prince George Airport.
Car rentals are available at the airport. Vanderhoof is a 108 km drive from Prince George airport.

Grocery Store
Coop grocery store, Your Independent Grocer in Vanderhoof. All "big box" stores such as Costco, Walmart, Superstore, Canadian Tire, etc. are located in Prince George (only an hour's drive away) Lots of good local shopping in town.
Community Centre
New community swimming pool, private fitness gym, trails and parks for biking, walking, running. Lots of opportunities for outdoor activities. The arts and culture scene is vibrant. Plenty of opportunities for recreational activities.

Vanderhoof is the geographical centre of BC but it is conveniently located within easy driving distance of Prince George, the northern capital which offers expanded retail, cultural, sports, & other local attractions, including a major airport.
